Hardware Robotics Engineer

Your new company

An exciting new robotics project

Your new role

We are seeking an experienced Robotics Hardware Engineer to lead the design, development, and fabrication of specialized cleaning tools and sensor systems for our autonomous cleaning robots. This role involves creating innovative end-effector designs, integrating multiple cleaning modalities, and ensuring robust performance in challenging commercial environments.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Lead and support the mechanical and electrical design of components and assemblies for integrated cleaning tool assemblies
  • Design robust mechanical interfaces between cleaning tools and robot arm mounting systems
  • Create modular tool-changing mechanisms for different cleaning tasks
  • Develop and test electronic control boards from concept through production
  • Engineer fluid routing systems for spray, suction, and tank management
  • Design maintenance-friendly components for field serviceability
  • Collaborate with software teams on sensor mounting and calibration
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized components, manufacturing, and materials
  • Conduct field testing to validate cleaning performance
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in robotics hardware design and development
  • Experience with end-effector design and multi-tool robotic systems
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
  • Experience with electronics design and PCB layout (Altium Designer, KiCad, or equivalent)
  • Experience with microcontrollers and single-board computers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, STM32)
  • Knowledge of embedded systems programming (C/C++, Python)
  • Understanding of motor control systems (servo motors, stepper motors, brushless DC motors)
  • Experience with sensor selection and integration (force, proximity, vision, fluid sensors)
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, RS485, I2C, SPI, UART)
  • Understanding of EMI/EMC considerations for robotic systems
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, 3D printing, injection molding, PCB assembly)
  • Understanding of robot kinematics and dynamics
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience with cleaning system design and fluid management
  • Knowledge of sanitation and disinfection requirements for commercial applications
  • Knowledge of waterproofing and environmental protection standards (IP ratings)
  • Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) or similar robotics frameworks
  • Experience with RoboDK for end effector design and simulation
