A global commodities trading house, is looking for an Internal Control Lead to join their Singapore office.
Your new role
Reporting directly to the Controller, this role is responsible for providing independent assurance across trading, risk management, and operational processes within a dynamic international commodity trading environment.
Working closely with trading, finance, and operations teams, the position requires a strong understanding of physical commodity trading, derivative markets, and the associated financial control frameworks that support these activities. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate key risks across trading books and ensure that robust governance and controls are in place to support business activities. Beyond risk assessment, the role will also play a proactive role in strengthening internal processes and enhancing audit readiness, ensuring alignment with statutory audit expectations and supporting the organisation in maintaining high standards of financial and operational integrity.What you'll need to succeed
A candidate with a strong academic background in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline. A professional qualification such as CA, CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent certificate would be highly regarded.
The ideal candidate will bring around 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in internal audit, external audit, or risk review, preferably gained within a commodity trading firm, global trading house, or investment bank where exposure to complex trading activities is common. A solid understanding of physical commodity trading flows, derivative instruments, and hedging strategies will be important in this role. Candidates should also have a good grasp of the key risk areas associated with trading activities, including credit risk, counterparty risk, and foreign exchange exposures. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with trading and risk management systems, such as CTRM or ETRM platforms, SAP TRM, or similar tools used for risk monitoring and reporting.
Strong analytical capabilities are essential, particularly the ability to review large volumes of transactional data and identify potential risk areas. Advanced Excel skills are expected, while familiarity with data analytics tools would be considered an added advantage. This global role would also require 30% travel.
